Ever wanted to go to the "Big Apple", New York City? But first, where can we find New York City? Where it is exactly located and what made New York City the place we now know it to be?

Let us have a brief background about New York City; it began during the first European settlement during the early 16th century. It is also where, as written documents states, that Englishmen found an abundant beaver population in the area for European beaver pelts, which was at that time fashionable in Europe. This lead to the rise of trading colonies in the New World, one of which is New Amsterdam which is later known as New York City. Later on, New York City was the location for most of the important battles noted in history, the Battle of Brooklyn. It is the time when George Washington was declared and inaugurated as the first American president on April 30, 1789 in front of the Federal Hall and the city was acknowledged as the capital of the United States until 1790.

After knowing a little background about New York City, it is only right to know where it is located. It is found on the Eastern Atlantic coast of the United States, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The city's exact central coordinates are 40 degrees, 42 minutes, 51 seconds North latitude and 74 degrees, 0 minutes, 23 seconds West longitude. New York City is made up of five boroughs and each is a county namely: Brooklyn (Kings County) and Queens, which occupy the west portion of Long Island, Staten Island (Richmond County) and Manhattan, each has their own land masses, and The Bronx, which attached to the North side of New York State Mainland.

Now, let us begin our walk throughout New York and visit its well-known places and tourist spot. First stop is the Metropolitan Museum of Art which is located at 79th and 5th avenue. It can be found near Central Park which is known to be the most visited park in New York City. Central Park can be described as a diverse place, a place where different walks of life meet at a common ground. Next would be Turtle Pond, also known as Belvedere Pond, which is a man made pond built for it to function as a reservoir and a habitat for wildlife. Another attraction is the Delacorte Theater built in 1962 which hold the annual New York Shakespeare Festival and is known to reproduce Shakespeare plays. The next attraction would be the Belvedere Castle, built in 1865.

It was built with no intent of using it except for being as a beautiful backdrop with the view. Swedish Cottage would be the next stop, built in 1875 in Sweden and brought to Central Park in 1877. It was a place that served many purposes such as a headquarters for Civil Defense during the Second World War, a library, a tool house, and a traditional schoolhouse. It is also where marionette performances are being held for it is the home of the Marionette Theater. Last but not the least would be the American Museum of Natural History which is located at Central Park West and 79th Street. It is known for its exhibitions and scientific display of collections that serve as a guide for everyone to know more about the world's diverse culture.
